AnalgueTrash was conceived in April 2009 in the latter half of the Covenant gig at Manchester's Club Academy. Two intrepid gig goers (who we'll call Mark and Ady to protect their real identities) thoroughly enjoyed the show but were disappointed by the lack of a dedicated electronic club night that they could head to for an after party following the show...
The day after and a load of e-mails later the duo secured a venue in the small room of Moho Live on a Thursday in late June, booked three excellent bands and promoted the night. While they had expected two people and their dog to turn up to the small-scale show, the room soon became packed out with around 100 people and a queue to get in stretching round the block outside the venue!
Two more Thursday shows later and the night changed format to regular club night in October 2009, taking up a prestigious Saturday night slot at The Tunnel on the outskirts of Manchester's gay village. Already home to great nights like Club Lash and Homoelectric, The Tunnel provided the perfect venue for 'trash. The night gained in popularity quickly, attracting a die-hard crowd of party-goers who were really on board with what they were trying to do.
There were many amazing nights at The Tunnel including an awesome Party Monster themed night, a two-roomed Halloween party with a Zombie Apocalypse theme and a very, very messy 'vs' night with Preston's Electro-Cide which are still talked about to this day.
Fast forward to February 2011 where, after a brief break for winter they packed out The Tunnel with the busiest 'trash party to date and their most diverse crowd yet. More monthly parties happened and 'trash reached a pinnacle in 2011 when it was selected to be one of only three exclusive UK warm up parties to the amazing Amphi Festival in Cologne and resident DJ ad3k was given the chance to perform at the festival – the only UK-based DJ to perform that year.
In June 2011 they closed the doors on their monthly parties for the last time and the future of AnalogueTrash was uncertain. Real life pressures were biting and they wanted to end on a high and pursue other ventures rather than leaving things to slowly fizzle out. They figured they had accomplished what they had set out to do and made their mark, and that was a good place to end things.
What they had wanted to do with 'trash since it's very conception was to take the best tunes from a whole range of different genres ranging from synthpop, EBM, industrial and electro right through to hard dance, trance and psytrance and present a big mash up of them all in one eclectic, welcoming and open night that just played "stompy dance music". Nobody had ever tried that as far as they knew, so it was a challenge to get the marketing right and attract the right, open-minded and up-for-it crowd.
AnalogueTrash is about the music and the atmosphere that goest with it, focussing on the overall vibe of the night rather than any one specific genre or style of tune. There were always going to be people who just didn't "get" what 'trash was about; but it had become, for many, more than just a night out. It was an idea; a shared mentality and a haven for anyone who didn't want to fit neatly into one particular box or scene and who just wanted to party hard. It had attracted a loyal following of party goers who were the driving force and energy behind their parties; and in many cases who had become their good friends.
Fast forward again to August 2011. They’d missed 'trash a lot, and so did lots of their regulars. Tehir last monthly party was amazing and it felt like they had finally hit that perfect mix of crowd, music and vibe that they'd set out to do way back in June 2009. Second thoughts were kicking in.
Out of the blue (amidst a riot no less) they happened upon the perfect venue in the form of Club Alter Ego that had a good sized stage and could be kitted out for live music; the one thing The Tunnel was missing. They decided that maybe doing something as awesome as 'trash every month was too much and that something a little less frequent but with all the atmosphere and crowd of 'trash was the way forward. They started planning AnalogueTrash: Contiguity which they hosted in November 2011, successfully pulling off their biggest night and most impressive line-up to date and firmly reminding fans and non-fans alike that 'trash was here to stay.
Following 4 more successful stand alone events, 'trash lost it's slot at Alter Ego (boo!) but found a new home shortly after in the form of The Zoo.
