Formed in November 2011, Blacken The Name are a five piece Metal band from Ashford, Kent and was the brain child of Oli Smith and Oscar Rodriguez. After auditioning for the band, Dan Wyatt soon became their energetic front-man. Dan introduced drummer Scott Brooks to the band and his addition completed the line up. After a few months of rehearsing the band completed their first demo and played their first gig in the Oranges pub in Ashford on Saturday 3rd March 2012 to what was reported by the pub owners as a record attendance!
After a few more months of gigging small venues around Kent, the band decided they needed to recruit a rhythm guitarist to complete their sound. In September 2012 the band auditioned and recruited John Shaw to complete the band.
It’s very difficult to put Blacken The Name into a certain genre, they would be described as a Metal/Experimental band, fusing complex bass lines, ripping guitar riffs, energetic drum work and melodic and screaming vocals to produce a heavy and unique sound. They are well regarded in the local scene due to their energetic performances, self promotion and DIY shows, organizing many successful charity shows within the local area. It’s no surprise that Blacken The Name has been labeled as the hardest working and one of the most exciting local bands by a local radio DJ and local promoters.
Blacken The Name state their influences to be Dillinger Escape Plan, Mudvayne, Lamb Of God, Deftones and Parkway Drive amongst many others.
