Alt-Fest will truly be the peoples festival, run by the scene and powered by the people. All aspects of the festivals progress, what we are thinking (and why) who we want to book will be here on the site for you to discuss, add your ideas and be involved in the whole process.

We the organisers consider ourselves simply the facilitators and how big/what form the festival ends up taking is entirely down to you. The more support we get the bigger the festival can become....

Our massive outdoor green field site will be announced very soon and is licensed for a capacity of up to 50,000 people and is spread over 300 acres of glorious countryside. We have a blank canvas to pack with the finest line-ups, multiple stages, spacious camping and fill it with art, sculpture and a zillion activities for your delectation's.

WHAT AND WHEN IS ALT-FEST?

Alt-Fest is a 3 day outdoor festival with 5 days of camping and market stalls. With multiple live music stages covering the genres of Goth, Industrial, EBM, Electronica and metal. The stages will be filled with bands you know and love. We'll also have an up and coming stage, clubbing marquees hosted by clubs you also know and love and a circus big top and a massive variety of alternative performers from burlesque to fetish, comedy and beyond.

Alt-Fest will be family friendly with the aged 12 and under getting free entry to the festival (1 free child per full paying adult). We will also have a creche where you can leave your very small ones for a few hours to get some well deserved adult time and there will be lots of activities for children as well, from fairground rides to a petting zoo, bouncy castles and more to keep them entertained.

We will also have an adult only 'village' which will be a self-contained area with a strict over 18 access, where we will have amongst other things a full Club AntiChrist clubbing zone and adult 'play' area. With other clubs planned to join us as well.

Alt-Fest really will have something for everyone.

WHEN IS IT?

We open our 'doors' (or should that be fences and fields) on Thursday 14th August 2014 when you may start your 5 days of camping and the main festival starts at 11am on Friday 15th.  You may camp right through till the Tuesday morning whilst the Festival ends at 2am on the Sunday night. There is so much to see and do locally as well, or you may just want or need a rest after all the fun, live music and activities we will have thrown at you!

If camping isn't for you there are many hotels close by, there is also lots of Bed and Breakfast accommodation in the surrounding areas. Full details will be posted soon!

 

WHY GET INVOLVED?

Most if not all of the other large festivals are run by corporations and Alt-Fest intends to become the largest independent Alternative outdoor festival in the world. We can't do this without you and the support of the Alternative scene..

The thing is, publicity is enormously important for independent projects that are not backed by big corporate money. Corporations can book huge bands and then throw thousands of pounds for the marketing months or even years before the their festival or gig takes place. Some of the larger bands are even contracted in to only appear at Festivals or events affiliated with their mother corporation, there is a monopoly and it's all linked in with the large corporate run ticketing agencies too... we don't like this! AND together we can change this!

We as an independently run and funded event need good publicity and a buzz right from the moment we announced Alt-Fest, with the Internet and Facebook/Twitter and so on YOU can help us attain this and then keep it going.

We must convince not only the scene but investors and the bigger acts and their agents that the idea is viable and there are people who are interested in it. We have to change the way things have been done and teach the old dog a new trick or two.

Let the world (and the bands) know that you demand Alt-Fest!

It only takes a few clicks but getting people from all over the UK, Europe and the world to hear about Alt-Fest will make it easier for us to make it happen, particularly the booking of the bigger 'name' bands....so:

Hit 'Like' on our Alt-Fest Facebook page.

Seek out all your favorite bands on Facebook and demand they play Alt-Fest (use the @alt-fest in your Facebook posts). + Keep posting on their pages.

 

HOW ELSE CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

There are many ways you can help us and become part of Alt-Fest. In it's simplest form the support we need is getting the Alt-fest message out to as many people as we can.

As well as reaching more people being able to show there is a demand for Alt-Fest will be critical for us when we apply for Arts Council Funding and look for private investors. So share our message and information and announcements about Alt-Fest as often as you can... we will love you longtime!

Soon Alt-Fest will be using 'Crowd Funding' so that you, the very people that will come to Alt-Fest, can help us with funding the festival. 100% of the funds raised in this way will go directly to support the running of the the festival itself. The more we can raise the bigger the festival can be and the more acts, bands and performers we can book.

The Alt-Fest community has already helped us in many ways, from giving us ideas to helping us promote or by volunteering services such as stewarding. This help is not cosmetic or a gimmick, it’s very important for us in a very concrete way.

WHAT IS CROWD FUNDING?

Crowd funding is somewhat of a phenomena at the moment, many bands including some very big ones are using sites like Pledgemusic to fund the recording of new albums. Many large but independently produced films are raising millions of pounds to help fund new movies and turning to the viewers for funding rather than corporate run studios.

Led by the recent success of high profile and high capital funding campaigns on KickStarter and Indiegogo as well as the many thousands of smaller projects, Crowdsourcing.org predicts that the amount of money raised by Crowd Funding Platforms during 2012 will reach £1320mil, up 91% since 2011.

Brian Fargo, who created Wasteland 2 used Crowd Funding and raised nearly $3 million.

But by far the best crowdfunding campaign we've seen so far is not a tech, movie or gaming start up. Amanda Palmer is a musician who wanted to raise $100K for a new CD, tour and book. She has a three-minute video where she doesn’t say a word, just holds up poster board with writing on it, smiles and waves and utterly charms you. She’s already raised $800K....

Crowd funding is very real, it's safe and it works and we can use Crowd Funding to make Alt-Fest, YOUR Festival, HUGE!

Worth adding that when we start our crowd funding for Alt-Fest any funds you pledge will either be physical items such as the tickets themselves or actual merchandise or if you pledge less than a full ticket entry this will be credited to your ticket account when you buy your tickets. But this will all become clearer and be fully explained once we start the crowd funding process, which will be fairly soon!

 

Alt-Fest aims to take this a step further and use crowd funding to book the headline bands on the line up of the main stage. Alt-Fest will also be looking at ways that crowd funding can empower and involve its people into contributing to the funding of the  festival.

The beauty of crowd funding is it allows US to connect with our target audience (that's YOU!) from Day One. It also enables us to better engage with you and create empathy and for you to shape the entire festival yourselves from the line-ups to the decor and beyond.

In many ways this is the holy grail of marketing - Our fans and supporters and volunteers are emotionally invested in the outcome, personally interested and want to see us succeed. So half our branding and awareness battle has already been fought, IF you share our belief and passion to succeed....

Running a major festival is a huge task, mammoth in fact, not only with the bookings themselves but the sheer amount of organization, from portaloos to stage and lighting, security, technicians and crew etc. Also the funds required to book a large and varied line-up significantly add to this cost BUT together we can make it HUGE!
